More news on the Phillips birth

Queen becomes great-grandmother

The Queen was "delighted" Thursday at becoming a great-grandmother with the birth of a baby girl to her grandson Peter Phillips and his Canadian wife.

Buckingham Palace announced that Phillips' wife Autumn gave birth to the baby, weighing 3.9 kilogrammes (8 pounds 8 ounces), on Wednesday at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester.

The Queen's first great-grandchild, who is yet to be named, is 12th in line to the throne.
Phillips is the son of Princess Anne, known as the Princess Royal, the queen's only daughter.
A statement from Buckingham Palace read: "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal, Captain Mark Phillips and Autumn's family have been informed and are delighted with the news."

The royal family is looking forward to the marriage in April of second-in-line to the throne Prince William and his university sweetheart Kate Middleton.
